Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘vagina candle’ sells out, confuses online users

With a name as absurd as “This Smells Like My Vagina”, this candle was destined to be the next big “thing” on the internet. For one, online users just couldn’t stop laughing at the idea that this item could smell like a woman’s private part–sparking numerous memes to circulate social media.

But the joke might be on these meme-makers as the 75-dollar (approximately 3,795.04 PHP) candle sold out online last January 13. According to the GOOP website, the “funny, gorgeous, and sexy” candle with a “beautifully unexpected scent” cannot be purchased at the moment. Interested customers must instead add the item on their wishlist to be informed of its next availability.

The now infamous candle is the brainchild of Gwyneth Paltrow and perfume expert Douglas Little. It was reportedly inspired by a joke Paltrow made on a fragrance she and Little were working on–in which the actress remarked, “smells like a vagina.”

Since news of this surfaced, a number of online users shared savage comments on the product and questioned why people would ever want to buy it.

One person tweeted “The vagina candle being just a regular candle that says ‘this smells like my vagina’ is the absolute best thing guys can’t comprehend this week on the internets.” While another online user posted, “Gwyneth Paltrow’s #vaginacandle selling out in a few hours is a prime example of why income redistribution should never become a thing. Some people just don’t know what to do with their money. Others use it much more effectively.”

While this may be the case online, it seems to be no issue to Paltrow and the rest of the GOOP team who have earned some money from the item’s sales.
