POP! Exclusive: Two Door Cinema Club excites fans with new album ‘False Alarm’

Two Door Cinema Club has come a long way since their humble beginnings in Northern Ireland.

Formed back in 2007, Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday, and Kevin Baird were just three friends who enjoyed making music together. Today, their band Two Door Cinema Club has garnered fans from all over the world. And thanks to their growing popularity among music enthusiasts, the trio is currently back on the music festival circuit with shows ranging from Europe to Asia.

This year, however, the band has something new to be excited about–their 4th studio album, “False Alarm.” Described as an album that “wryly scans and satirizes the social and environmental woes of 2019 through the prism of wonderfully off-kilter pop,” False Alarm will surely excite fans with its unique tracks and one-of-a-kind lyrics.

But while we’re waiting for the album’s release, InqPOP! got up close and personal with Two Door Cinema Club’s Sam Halliday as he discussed their creative process, their experience working with famed producer Jacknife Lee, their newest album, and their impression of the Philippines.

Here’s what we learned from the musician:

Creating music is an ever-changing process for the band

Since Two Door Cinema Club has such a distinct sound, we had to ask how the band creates and composes their songs. Surprisingly, Brian Halliday says that there’s no one specific process when it comes to making their music.

“It’s been a changing process really over the past few albums. On ‘False Alarm,’ we had a lot of time to experiment and try incorporating a lot of different styles and influences,” he explains.

Halliday adds that age and the current status of the music scene also play a major role in the evolution of the band’s music. He shares, “The older we get and the more aware we are of different genres and artists–I suppose that just widens our influences and, probably, shifts our feelings towards making music.”

Today, he is proud of the accomplishments he and his bandmates have achieved. And we’re pretty sure fans are also cheering them on as they continue to produce good music and perform on their international stints.

Producer Jacknife Lee continues to push them out of their comfort zone

Jacknife Lee has worked with many iconic names in Hollywood throughout his career. This includes U2, Taylor Swift, and Snow Patrol. So, he’s a force to be reckoned with in the music and entertainment industry. And for years, he has taken Two Door Cinema Club under his wing.

Halliday tells InqPOP! that this collaboration with Lee allows his band to go out of their comfort zone and experiment with new sounds.

“Yeah, it’s been a great experience getting to work alongside him (Jacknife Lee) for the past number of years. He is always pushing us out of our comfort zone–which is tough, sometimes. But I think it definitely helps that we get on very well with him and musically, we share a lot of influences. He is always putting us on to new music too.”

‘False Alarm’ shares a special message about our issues in 2019

Their upcoming fourth album, False Alarm, is set to portray and discuss issues affecting 2019. Though it relays a certain message to this generation, Halliday clarifies that it does not indoctrinate listeners in any way.

“Yeah, I think the main thing is we aren’t pointing the finger and saying, ‘this is where everyone is going wrong with life in 2019.’ Instead, we are coming at it from a place wherein we are all in it together and we look at these silly things that our part of our everyday lives.”

Halliday additionally recommends that fans listen to “Satellite” first as it “captures a lot of the 2019 sentiment,” “one of the more immediate songs,” and is his “favorite” track in the album.

Two Door Cinema Club enjoys the company of their Filipino fans

Although Halliday admits he and his bandmates haven’t visited the other cities in the Philippines, he is very appreciative of his Filipino fans.

“We did end up at a bar after our last show in the Philippines and it was so much fun. The people had heard we were over there doing the festival and were so welcoming and friendly.  Aside from that, anytime we meet fans there, they are so kind. We’ve had people come say ‘hey’ and even bring us little welcome gifts,” he recalls his experience in the country.

And he hopes their support continues as they release their newest album in full collaboration with Prolifica Inc.

“We are super happy to release the album and really hope you enjoy it. I think there’s a lot of different stuff on this album and a couple of features we have on there are super cool, as well.”

Don’t miss the release of False Alarm on June 21, 2019!
