“Her shared post for me is an insult to the former president, an insult to his family and followers.”
This week, Yiv Cortez, sister of YouTube personality Viy Cortez, shared a meme on Facebook featuring former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte flying to The Hague in a private jet, with the “Sosyal! [Fancy!].”
While she showed her audience on social media that she was riding with the joke, her father Rolando Cortez did not find it amusing. He later posted a statement with screenshots in aim to hold his daughter accountable for her post and sentiments regarding the matter.
Rolando wrote, “IN BEHALF OF MY FAMILY, I’M ACCEPTING THE RESPONSIBILITY OF YIV’S ACTION!” He then quoted Arnold H. Glasow, “Telling a teenager the facts of life is like giving a fish a bath.” The father’s ultimate goal was to reportedly tell his daughter the difference between an opinion and an insult.
The acclaimed head of the household shared screenshots of their conversation where he shared bible verses in relation to how a parent must be towards their child. Attached to these religious messages, however, were his threats to his own daughter, writing, “This is my last warning @Yiv Cortez, makakatikim ka na ng palo sakin pg di ka tumigil sa political post!” ]“This is my last warning @Yiv Cortez, you’re really going to get a hit from me if you don’t stop with the political post!”]
The young woman then responded, “Maybe this is a lesson for me.”, “Narealize ko na pinapatahimik talaga ng kasamaan ang kabutihan. [“I realized that evil really tries to shun out goodness.]
It seems a turn of events from the “palo” threat did not come through after the exchange, as the father wrote off in his caption, “Pag-uwi ko sa bahay galing ng trabaho – yumayakap, umiiyak, at humihingi siya ng sorry. Enough for me, na hindi siya paluin ng belt” (“When I got home from work – she hugged me crying and asking for forgiveness. Enough for me, to not hit her with a belt.”)
Ending his post with, “I just want PEACE to the world!” viewers had quickly come to Yiv’s defense.
Social media users have praised Yiv for her intelligence and political awareness. Meanwhile, her father continued to respond to some comments on his post, standing firm in his stance. Audiences have shown their support for the young woman, commending her courage and knowledge while wishing her well in her future endeavors.

Yiv then took to TikTok to clarify that her parents were only concerned about the death threats she had been receiving but expressed it in the wrong way.
