Swedish-American pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis recently broke a record at the 2024 Paris Olympics and celebrated his big win with a kiss from his girlfriend looking like a scene from a movie.
Last August 5, the pole vaulter broke a world record after he reached 6.25m during the men’s pole vault final, securing a gold medal for Sweden. Once he landed back on the mat, Duplantis immediately ran to his Swedish model girlfriend, Desiré Inglander.

The TikTok star wrapped Duplantis in her arms while sporting Team Sweden attire, and it looked as though she was crying. Fans applauded behind the couple as cameras caught them sharing a kiss. Duplantis was seen approaching Inglander from the stands in a video that she posted to Instagram during the historic event.
Social media users took to the comments to share how touched they were with the sweet gesture.
Some even said that the moment “imitated art” as it seemed like bringing Taylor Swift’s The Alchemy’s lyrics to life. “The greatest in the league. Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me,” the lyrics read.

The native of Louisiana, whose mother is from Sweden, has broken the pole vault record nine times in total. In fact, he surpassed his own record of 6.24 meters, which he had set earlier this year in the Xiamen Diamond League, with his 6.25 meters pole vault on August 5 in the final.
In a report made by the Olympics, he told the reporters that, “I haven’t processed how fantastic that moment was. It’s one of those things that don’t really feel real, such an out-of-body experience. It’s still hard to kind of land right now.”
Duplantis stated that it has been his “biggest dream” since he was little to “break the world record at the Olympics,” seeing now that he has done so “in front of the most ridiculous crowd I’ve ever competed in front of.”
The social media star and the gold medallist first met at a Midsummer party in Stockholm back in 2020, the couple recently revealed to Vogue Scandinavia. Having recently graduated from high school, Inglander characterized herself at that time as “very single and not ready to mingle.”
Just a few weeks before the pole vaulter departed to train in the US, Inglander finally agreed to a date after months of Duplantis’ fruitless attempts to ask her out. The model has signed deals with a number of high-end companies, including Intimissimi, L’Oreal, and sportswear label Aim’n.
