‘Havey or Waley?’ Rate all the branded trendjacking posts related to Carlos Yulo’s Olympic victory

After clinching not one but two Gold Medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, several brands took the opportunity of Carlos Yulo’s recent victory as an avenue to not only congratulate the man of the hour, but also bump up their visibility during this highly buzzed time in order to market their branding and products and services even further.

This is what trendjacking does. For context, the technique known as “trendjacking” involves using popular hashtags, subjects, or trends on social media to increase brand exposure. This tactic is employed to match material with current conversations in order to capitalize on the momentum and draw in viewers.

This serves as a test to how brands can effectively make use of what is happening in the online space in order for them to catch their target audience’s attention. Some posts will win and receive counts of templated “give your social media manager a raise!” comments and hit the virality jackpot, while others will find themselves roasted in online groups. That is just the way the world of advertising and marketing works.

From restaurants to other different services out there, brands went all in, creating a deluge of advertisements intended to hit two birds with one stone: promote their brands while celebrating Yulo’s victory.

NOW IT’S TIME TO RATE THEM–which ones nailed it, and which ones failed it?
