Social media users mourn the death of a beloved cat in a railway station

A sad news for animal lovers out there because the beloved cat in one of the stations in the light railway transit has crossed the rainbow bridge.

If you’re a commuter who frequently travels from and to Dr. Santos Avenue LRT-1 station, you’d usually see a cat who likes to hang out. Lovingly referred to as Mingming by many, this black and white-colored cat was always spotted either sleeping around the station or being fed by passersby.

However, one social media user noticed that the cat couldn’t be seen for weeks now and when he asked the station guard about Mingming’s welfare, they received a heartbreaking update.

RIP Mingming, ang parating tulog na [pusa] sa Dr. Santos (the ever-sleeping [cat] in Dr. Santos),” an anonymous participant wrote in a post shared in the Facebook group, “How’s your byahe, bes?”. “Ilang linggo ko na siya di nakikita sa pwesto niya. Nag-alala na rin ako kaya tinanong ko ‘yung guard. Ang sabi e nasagasaan daw siya ng tren habang naghahanap ng pag-aanakan ( I haven’t seen her in her place for several weeks. I was also worried so I asked the guard. It is said that she was ran over by a train while looking for a place to birth her babies).”

Following the tragic news about Mingming, which was apparently pregnant, social media users mourn its death and its unborn kitten.

Many users suggested different ways to avoid this kind of accident, such as providing shelter and moving stray animals to a safer area. One even organized a community group to adopt stray animals and encouraged others to join.

Run free, Mingming. May you and your babies live a good afterlife in the cats’ heaven.
