Filipinos share witty remarks on the viral video of a penguin being released back into the ocean

A video showing a penguin being released back into the sea is piquing the interest of Filipinos.

After months of rehabilitation at the Argentine Mundo Marino Foundation, where it received treatment for serious injuries, a king penguin was shown being released back into its natural habitat.

The penguin was escorted by personnel to the coastline of a beach in Buenos Aires province. At the water’s edge, it paused for a moment before waddling in and swimming out into the ocean.

While the video may seem wholesome, Filipinos appear to have found humor in the penguin’s actions, as reflected in the comments.

One user wrote, “Pag ako kinain ng orca ha sa haba ng lalakbayin ko [If an orca eats me huh with how long I would travel].”

Another user wrote, “Ano to tatawid pa ako sa north pole [What is this I would still cross the north pole]?”

Baka nakakalimutan niyo penguin ho ako hindi pawikan [Are you forgetting that I’m a penguin not a turtle],” a third user wrote.

A fourth user commented on the penguin’s chances of survival, writing, “larooo naka survive nga sa injury pero sa orca mukhang hindi. [I may have survived its injury, but it probably won’t escape an orca.]”

Mali ata na-pin kong drop off location beh hindi ito yung may snow [I might have pinned the wrong drop off location this is not the one with snow],” a fifth user wrote, showing concern to the penguin adding, “Kidding aside, nakakaawa si Penguin layo lalakbayin papuntang North Pole [Kidding aside, I pity the penguin, it would travel far going to North Pole].”

More social media users took to the comments to share their hilarious takes.

Regarding the health of the penguin, the veterinarian at the Mundo Marino Foundation Juana Caferri explained that the rehabilitation required months of recovery for the penguin.

“Although the injuries healed, the affected areas were left without feather cover, which prevented the animal from conserving heat in aquatic environments,” Caferri stated.

She further continued that they only return injured penguins back to sea and release them from veterinarian’s care “when the down began to regenerate and the feathers completely covered those areas.”
