Netflix broke its silence and addressed the controversial issue of Spanish actress, Karla Sofía Gascón which surrounded the debut of film ‘Emilia Pérez’.
A resurfaced moment for Gascón after social media users brought up her past posts about the disrespect and offensive act towards Muslim and Black community. Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, expressed her disappointment through a podcast with ‘The Town’ over the issue stating, “It’s really a bummer for 100 very incredibly talented people who made an amazing movie,” Bajaria said. “So, for me, it’s really about that.” She emphasized as well on the fact that because of this resurfaced controversy it has brought major effect to the production of the film along with the cast and crew.
The series of offensive and unremarkable posts made by Gascón resurfaced even after the posts have been deleted and she personally addressed this, it took a social media user by surprise by her presence as a main character for Emilia Pérez’.
It was reported that Netflix took a step back from any form of connections from Gascón to further not exploit the entire production involved. Bajaria acknowledged all challenges each one is currently facing, ensuring she is monitoring every step ever since the debut of the film.
This has brought the decision of Netflix to rethink the decision of Gascón’s part in the promotional events moving forward. However, difficulties are still brought upon on what the production team could face due to the extensive content and the talents associated. Moreover, the impact of the film as it still stands firm despite the controversy that was brought upon by one of its main characters.
