Waltzing a day after Valentine’s, dearest gentle readers and fans alike were surprised with new snippets on the upcoming Bridgerton Season 4 which will follow the story of Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek.
At Netflix’s ‘Season of Love’ fan event, a quick video snippet showcased the show’s behind-the-scenes production. Showrunner Jess Brownell had also revealed that beloved characters from previous seasons are set to make a comeback such as Nicola Coughlan and Luke Thompson as Penelope and Luke Bridgerton, and Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey’s Kate and Anthony Bridgerton.
But, of course, the diamond of the season will focus on the intriguing love story of Benedict, played by Luke Thompson, and Sophie, played by Yerin Ha. Thompson described the upcoming season as “A bit of a twist on ‘Cinderella. You remember being told those stories as a child — the magic and the romance of them.” The dynamics between the two characters is somewhat scandalous with the story’s conservative regency era backdrop.
Much is to look forward to in terms of Asian representation in the film as Yerin Ha is a South Korean-Australian actress who will assume the titular role of Benedict’s love interest. Katie Leung, best known for her role as Cho Chang from the Harry Potter movie series, will also play as Sophie’s step-mother, Lady Araminta Gun. Meanwhile, Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li and Isabella Wei as Posy Li will play alongside Sophie as her step sisters.
But, what is a Bridgerton show without its iconic masquerade balls which will be central to the plot of Sophie and Benedict. In the video clip from Netflix, most of the snippets are drawn from the masquerade ball featuring new costumes and looks for all the characters. There are also high hopes as showrunner Brownell divulged a possible Taylor Swift orchestra cover for one of these scenes which further heightened the fans’ anticipation.
The upcoming fourth season is an on-screen adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novel, ‘An Offer From a Gentleman,’ which will feature eight episodes, but the show’s release date is yet to be announced.
