TrustRing, a Japan tech company, has found a way to increase its appeal toward employees by offering ‘unusual’ work leave set-ups for those struck with hangovers, or if they fancy to take a “celebrity loss leave.”
Japan is currently experiencing labor shortages which are expected to continuously decline by 12% from 2022 until 2040. Even though the country holds the record of Asia’s second-biggest economy, Japan is yet to resolve the decline in its workforce as statistics suggest that 29% of its population are senior citizens aged 65 and above.
As a result, companies are looking into ways how they can better enthrall young employees into the workforce. Larger firms have thought of increasing salaries, but smaller companies are compelled to spark creative, although unconventional, ways and benefits to pull the younger generation into their workplaces.
Hence, the Osaka-based company TrustRing allows employees to take time off work depending on specific situations. When an employee suffers from a hangover, perhaps after a night out, they can opt to skip a workday to give themselves extra time to refresh and recuperate.
In the case of a major announcement from one’s favorite celebrity, employees can also take the time to absorb such news. As a testament, one of the company’s staff member made sure to use up the company policy when the marriage of Japanese musician and actor Gen Hoshino and actress Yui Aragaki was announced back in 2021.
According to TrustRing’s president, Daigaku Shimada, these unique policies contributed positively to their company without compromising the starting salaries they offer which is around 222,000 Yen or 85,000 Pesos a month, with additional overtime pay. The company has also added measures to ensure that employees will have a pleasant stay with a newly set-up drinks bar in their office.
TrustRing shared that their efforts to foster a healthy working environment equally produced excellent employee satisfaction, with no records of resignation from their staff over the past three years as well as boosted business performance since then.
