Sustainability with flare: 9 online thrift shops that upcycle their pieces

From what we see on YouTube vlogs to TikTok videos, thrift shopping has become a trending topic and lifestyle choice— most especially at this time when people are becoming more business-minded, latching onto the idea of resale.

A shedload of resellers have popped up all over Instagram, taking the advantage of the easily accessible “ukay-ukay” stores to earn money and making a major alteration in the game of the fashion industry, but that’s not all it’s about.

It’s also great to see that some creative folks out there brought more art in this thrifting business, turning fabric remnants into a revolutionary piece. You could only wish you had their talent.

And while we’re at it, here’s a list of Instagram stores where you can purchase upcycled and reworked pieces. Who knows, you might use them as an inspiration for a thrift flip project!

1. House of Nephrite (@houseofnephrite)

With their classic touch of Renaissance and baroque art, you’ll never go wrong with House of Nephrite’s tops – but mainly if you’re looking for something extra – like you know, giving you that haute couture vibe. Thanks to their pieces, the paintings of incredible artists like Vincent Van Gogh and Sandro Botticelli are reenvisioned into wearable art.

2. Tori Vintage (@tori_vintage)

Tori Vintage is that shop you can check out for a picnic date outfit, or a cute and chic beach wear. Their reworked clothes are mostly monochrome, but let me tell you, any top that’s a bit skin-showy will never go out of style on a heated day.

3. Gleam Darling (@gleamdarling)

We do love clothes that give a pop of color and that’s just exactly what Gleam Darling is all about. Just like something out of Winx Club, they put the fun in fashion and are never afraid to play around with more colors.

At times, it’s better to change the game and make things as different and as unique as they can be. With Tagpi by Kanayun Collective’s trendy yet inventive pieces, your outfit would certainly be one-of-a-kind.

5. Byeol the Label (@byeolthelabel)

For all the hypebeasts out there, you might want to hop on Byeol the Label’s shop. They sell these cutesy tops that give a punch of swag, sending off an impression of Maggie Lindemann’s “I’m not just a pretty girl” vibe.

7. Project PH (@pro.jectph)

Believe it or not, vintage-retro is still a thing. But what’s surprising is that Project PH is not just all about upcycling tops and bottoms, but also bucket hats – an actual trendy piece. Whether in plains or prints, they’re also not afraid to mix and match clothing straps and turn it into a playful piece!

8. Sanina (@sa.ni_na)

There’s this word that describes Sanina’s Instagram shop and that is: debonair. From neutrals to pastels, fifty percent of their tops scream Zara and the other half, Korean-inspired fashion. Take it from me, it’s all posh!

And although some may find ‘thrift-flipping’ a pleasurable activity or a good way to start a business, let’s all not forget to check out our privilege before buying second hand items.

Also, when will shops start upcycling pieces for larger sizes? People would surely love to see them!
