Michelle Yeoh reveals Jackie Chan was supposed to lead Oscar-nominated film ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’

After her nomination in the upcoming Oscar Awards, Michelle Yeoh revealed that her role in the 2022 genre-bending ‘Everything Everywhere All at once’ was initially offered to Jackie Chan, with the film originally written with a man as lead.

The Oscar-nominated actress mentioned that she received a congratulatory message from Chan after she got the coveted role, which the action star turned down due to his other work commitments.

“I remember Jackie texting me and saying, ‘Congratulations! You know your boys came to see me first.’ I’m like, thank you bro you did me a huge favor”, Yeoh said.

Yeoh revealed that the film’s directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, also known as the ‘Daniels’ envisioned Chan as the lead character with Yeoh as his beloved wife. However, Chan refused to take the role because of his ‘very hectic’ work schedule. The script was then rewritten for Yeoh.

Aside from Yeoh’s nomination for Best Actress, the movie has also been nominated for ten other Oscar Awards, including Best Original Screenplay, Best Picture, and Best Supporting Actor. The 95th Academy Awards event will take place on March 13.

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ revolves around the story of a middle-aged Chinese immigrant who is tasked to save existence by exploring the multiverse and connecting with the lives she could have led. Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh) struggles to cope with everything, including tattered relationships with her family members and her laundromat heading to the edge of failure. Evelyn finds herself in an exploration of parallel realities to prevent a malevolent force from ruining the thin layers of the unseen realm.

The sci-fi and comedy-drama film also includes Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and James Hong, among others.
