The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has created a pressing need for society to rethink, retool, and adapt in order to move forward. With this, national priority has been placed on the biomedical and healthcare sector in order to combat the strains brought by the pandemic. Despite efforts made, there are still a lot of improvements that can and should be made in the Philippine healthcare setup. Staff and healthcare professionals are still overworked and underpaid, facilities and materials are not utilized optimally, and databases are not managed to their full potential. There are indeed a lot of challenges in the healthcare sector, which is why it is an interesting and highly relevant field for Industrial Engineers to delve into.
With this, the UPLB Industrial Engineering Students’ Organization invited professionals from the health and biomedical sector to shed light on how Industrial Engineers can make a significant impact in optimizing the efficiency and productivity of healthcare systems.
