Think you’re street smart? Well, an entrepreneur on TikTok just got herself a tiny home from a single bobby pin — talk about hustle culture.
On May 19, 2020, Demi Skipper posted her first video on TikTok under the user @TradeMeProject. The 29-year-old declared that she was on a mission to trade a bobby pin for a house. While it may sound crazy, she was actually inspired by Kyle McDonald who became a homeowner after successfully trading his way from a paperclip. Her rules are simple: no trading to friends or family, and no money involved, or altering the item for a better trade.

Over the course of a week, Skipper’s profile surged in popularity. As of writing, she has over 4.5 million users who have been following her journey on TikTok. From what started as a side project to pass the time over quarantine, she never expected to go viral on the platform.

With the goal of beating McDonald’s record of one year, Skipper has already acquired a tiny mobile cabin within six months. However, it didn’t come without its fair share of challenges. At one point she accidentally traded an item for a lesser value.

While she may technically already have a home, she is hoping to trade the cabin for a proper house.
