Online conferencing really spared us the time of getting stuck in heavy traffic and all that rush hour ride-hopping. By simply waking up to the alarm we snoozed too many times and a few finger combs on our hair, we are–as if fresh from the bath–ready to take our tasks for the day.
However, if you are a habitual latecomer, you might want to recalibrate your time management skills and see to it that you won’t lock yourself out of your online classroom with this ‘in development’ marked feature of Microsoft Teams.
This month, Microsoft introduced a new option that allows meeting organizers to block subsequent users from joining an on-going meeting. *Ooops! Bruno Mars left the group*
The software update is generally available to Teams desktop clients to increase the security on privacy of confidential meetings hosted in MS Teams.
Organizers control with meeting locks
From granular control over meeting invitations, hosts are now able to take command of the lobby bypass, a virtual area for incoming participants. Settings for this dictates who can automatically join a meeting or wait for admittance.
Meeting settings are also manned by the organizers which permit attendees to audio and video utilization and share presentations. (You got us there, Microsoft. Promise no unnecessary interruptions and annotation… anymore.)
Invitees’ access to meeting resources
There are modifications being done, but educational institutions certainly take benefit out of this as early as now. Meanwhile, students may be wondering, “How can I keep up?”, “Am I blocked forever?” or “When can I join again?”
Buddy, don’t worry. Microsoft is definitely that friend who won’t leave you out of place.
Blocked attendees have continued access to meeting resources like the Teams chat while the conference is in progress. Transcripts and meeting recordings are as well accessible for latecomers– and no, you are only prevented from entering the meeting until the organizer reopens the call.
This time around, don’t even think about living up by the saying ‘better late than never’ because being never late is way much better.
