Japanese store offers expensive dipper, results in a comedic ‘tabo battle’

One of the most important cleaning tools you can find in a typical Filipino household is the indispensable fixture called the “tabo” (bath dipper).

Usually, these water dippers are made of plastic, come in a wide array of colors, and are worth only Php 15 to Php 50. This is why many online users had vehement reactions to the price of  MUJI‘s bath dipper.

Last June 23, the Japanese store advertised its product on Facebook and it went viral because social media users were “amused” about the item’s description. More than that, these people questioned the water dipper’s price of  PHP365 (US$7.10).

As of this writing, the post garnered more than 7,000 shares and 13,000 reactions.  Here are some of the online users’ funny comments:

On the other hand, local brand Orocan tried to steal the spotlight when they posted their product on their Facebook page with suggested retail price, PHP34.75. They even called it the “extraordinary dipper” because it comes with PHP 330.25 worth of coins.

But the competition doesn’t stop there–these two brands have found another competitor! According to the Facebook page MasarapBa, the AL-Tabo is well-polished with solid materials, “Lakas makatransform from hampaslupa to maharlika once mahawakan mo siya” (It will quickly transform you from being broke to becoming a filthy rich, once you’ve held this item).

Aside from this unique quality, the Masarap Ba bath dipper is multipurpose because it can also be used to serve soup and porridge as written on the photo caption.
