Dua Lipa writes song for ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ movie

Global pop singing sensation and 2019 double Grammy nominee Dua Lipa, will co-write and perform a new single, “Swan Song,” for Twentieth Century Fox’s Alita: Battle Angel, the epic action-adventure from producers James Cameron and Jon Landau (Avatar) and director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City). The film will be released in Philippine cinemas on February 6.

“From the moment we saw her video for ‘New Rules,’ we knew that Dua Lipa would be the perfect artist to do a song for Alita: Battle Angel,” commented Producer Jon Landau.  “She has the kick-ass strength, power and attitude in her performances that Alita embodies in the movie.  Jim, Robert and I are thrilled to have her onboard and are confident she will make ‘Swan Song’ the perfect inspiring and empowering anthem for our film.”

Rosa Salazar stars as Alita in Twentieth Century Fox’s ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL.

Said Lipa, “I am intrigued at both Alita herself, and the amazing team of creators that came together to make this movie possible. I see a little of myself in her, in both her badass spirit and our shared haircut. Alita is all about empowerment and standing up for who you are, which are two things that resonate with me.”

“Swan Song” was written by Justin Tranter, Kennedi Lykken, Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson, Tom Holkenborg and Dua Lipa.

Alita: Battle Angel stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson. The screenplay was written by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis, based upon the graphic novel (“Manga”) series “GUNNM”  by Yukito Kishiro.

With the release of her self-titled debut album on Warner Bros. Records, London born, Kosovo raised Dua Lipa has won over the hearts of fans and press alike. The songs on Dua Lipa announced the arrival of a new force in pop—irresistible on the dance floor, thoughtful under closer inspection, constantly discovering creative possibilities. Her critically acclaimed debut made everyone’s “best of” list, from The FADER to Rolling Stone to Time Magazine. Her power anthem “New Rules” reached #1 on the Top 40 chart, and broke the longstanding record for consecutive weeks on the Billboard Pop Songs Chart. The video for the song went viral and made her the youngest female solo artist to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. She was consistently the most streamed female artist on Spotify and in the top 5 globally this past year. Dua Lipa sold over 3 million copies, with singles reaching 40 million sold. Most recently, Dua received Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording for “Electricity” (with Silk City featuring Diplo & Mark Ronson), and made BRIT Award history becoming the first woman artist to pick up five nominations, taking home the awards for British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist.

Official Synopsis

From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.
