Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall reveals being ghosted by Harry Styles after their first date

Little Mix alum Jade Thirlwall has just revealed an interesting story about Harry Styles, which involved him ghosting the “Black Magic” hitmaker after their first date.

In a recent interview with Louis Theroux for his podcast, Thirlwall recalled the event, explaining that they first crossed paths in 2010 after she and Styles auditioned for the UK’s The X Factor.

According to the soloist, they went on one date when they were “like 16” and at the time, Styles had just been put in One Direction, the band that would later catapult into stardom, alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and the late Liam Payne.

“It was really funny because we kept in touch, and then the minute they went on live shows, he didn’t message me back,” Thirlwall recounted, jokingly added: “I thought, ‘That’s it. Now he’s gone. He’s made it.”

The “Angel of My Dreams” singer then shared that a year later, they reconnected all because of The X Factor. In 2011, Thirlwall tried her luck once again and auditioned as a solo singer before being also put in a band with Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson.

During their tenure as finalists of the competition show, the girl group had a chance to perform with One Direction. At that time, Styles apologized to her for ignoring her.

“I made it the next year, and I saw him in a room after. He was like, ‘I’m really sorry that I ignored you,’” said Thirlwall. “I was so young, it didn’t really matter.”

Despite the incident, Thirlwall has nothing but praises for Styles, saying: “He’s gotten himself to where he is because he’s very talented and he’s very lovely. Very charming.”

Thirlwall wasn’t the only Little Mix singer who had been romantically linked with a One Direction member. Edwards also dated Malik from 2012 before becoming engaged in the year after. However, the two singers eventually broke up in 2015.

Elsewhere in the episode, Thirlwall shared her thoughts on the tragic death of Payne, who passed away in October after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Argentina.

When asked about whether she thought the pressures of being in a boyband contributed to Payne’s death, Thirlwall said that it was not her place to talk anything about it “because I didn’t really know him over the last few years.”

“But I think everyone that enters the industry at a young age is going to go through it in some way, and it can be really lonely when you’re that huge,” she added, noting that she herself had also experienced being lonely when her group was celebrating a career-high.

“I definitely had moments where I did have severe depression and anxiety,” Thirlwall candidly shared with Theroux.

“I just think there’s so much pressure. The bigger you get, the more you’re sort of conditioned that you have to keep that up because if you come anywhere below that, you’re flopping,” she added.

In 2020, Nelson announced her departure from Little Mix due to mental health struggles. The group then proceeded as a trio before announcing their hiatus in 2022.

Since then, the girls went on to launch their solo endeavors, with Thirlwall appearing in a British TV series and releasing her own music.
