FEU Film Society launches Sinepiyu 17, calls for student film entries

Far Eastern University (FEU) Manila’s premier film organization, FEU Film Society, commenced the 17th year of their annual film festival, the Sinepiyu with the theme ‘Sinepiyu 17 Gimik: Isigaw ang Puso, with the aim to provide a platform for student filmmakers to highlight social realities through storytelling while advocating for new beginnings and resisting historical revisionism.

Sinepiyu 17

For the past 17 years, the annual student-led film festival, Sinepiyu, centers on relevant filmmaking that tackles national identity, human rights, gender equality, among others.

As a university-based and student-led film competition, Sinepiyu promotes inclusivity and serves as a venue for narratives that foster cultural awareness through artistry. The  festival features two (2) divisions to cater to all the student filmmakers across the Philippines.

  • All Tamaraws (All Tams) Division – Exclusive to 4th-year Digital Cinema students of FEU.
  • Interschool Division – Open to Senior High School (SHS) and college student filmmakers nationwide, accepting submissions under Narrative, Documentary, and Experimental categories.

Film entries for the Interschool Division must be produced not earlier than January 2024, with a runtime between five (5) minutes to twenty-five (25) minutes including opening and closing billboards. Submission mechanics and full registration details are posted on Sinepiyu’s Facebook page

Sinepiyu 17 will be a 4-day long event held from April 28-30 & May 09, 2025, comprising virtual film screening, physical screening, talkback sessions with the filmmakers, and awards night.

Finalists will be granted both online and physical screening through digital platforms and theatres, with further details to be announced.

“Student filmmakers, it’s about time! Share your stories with us! Don’t let those films be stuck in a Google Drive—join Sinepiyu 17!” Says the Angelo Copon, Sinepiyu 17’s festival director.
