The long-running animated series “The Simpsons” unexpectedly said goodbye to a supporting character in its most recent episode, “Cremains of the Day.” Fans were devastated and perplexed when a cherished character was unexpectedly killed off in a recent episode of The Simpsons.
Since the 1989 “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire” episode, Larry the Barfly had been a regular at Moe’s Tavern, but he met his end on the 765th episode in which they also revealed Larry’s full name. Larry Dalrymple is voiced by Harry Shearer (Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Waylon Smithers). Larry’s passing forces Homer and his regular Moe’s crew to deal with their peer’s absence.
The episode started with Larry passing away in the bar. Later, when Moe, Homer, Lenny, and Carl attended his funeral, they discovered how little they actually knew about their friend. After hearing her mother’s heartfelt farewell to her late son, “My Lawrence always talked about his best friends, the fellows at Moe’s Tavern,” they become even more depressed. If they mentioned how much they missed my son, that would make my heart smile.
Fans shared their outpouring of sadness over the tragic loss of the character.
Tim Long, the co-producer of the animated series, apologized for the sudden turn of events, saying he’s sorry to the fans who are saddened by the passing and the depressing episode. However, he says he appreciates that viewers seemed to be as upset as Homer and the gang were in the episode because it shows how popular the program is still.
