Filipino’s tweet on excessive gravy consumption goes viral, sparks discussion online

Gravy police vs. Gravy enjoyer?

Gravy holds a special place in Filipinos’ hearts. It has already become an essential part of any fast-food chicken meal. Who could blame them when for most people, gravy is life?

“GRAVY KA NAMAN 😂😂😂”

A TikTok creator captioned a video of him pumping the gravy dispenser of a local fast-food restaurant.

Apparently, the user pumped many times the gravy turned out to look like a soup rather than just a complementary dip for the chicken.

The video reached 2.3 million views and about 65,000 likes. The comment section was flooded with users who expressed their opinions on the video.

The content engaged an even wider audience when a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared his thoughts about the video. According to the user on X, the creator of the video certainly got his attention and ire.

[Whoever you are who made this video, you got my attention and ire. I know it’s your right to do whatever makes you happy, everyone can do what pleases them. But just because [the gravy] is free, doesn’t mean we should abuse it. A little respect won’t hurt.]

One user replied, “where’s the hate coming from?? gravy lang ‘yan ang laki ng problema mo, oa. kahit magdalawang plato sya ng gravy wala kang pake lmao”

The author of the tweet responded to this and expressed that his main concern was the behavior shown on the video which he claims ‘does not sit well’ with him, and not the amount of gravy the person was pouring.

Other people on the thread shared their approval of the user’s point of view.

Some users shared that they simply love getting lots of gravy, but it does not mean that they are not considerate of other customers’ needs. Other users also mentioned that gravy is their comfort food and putting more gravy on their plate helps them eat more at a low cost, while others agree that customers should get the amount of gravy they know they can finish.

A user shared her thoughts that it could be the local fast food’s marketing strategy to attract more customers to dine in.

The user replied, “Agree, the free unli gravy is part of their marketing strategy, no doubt about it. Since you seemed like a decent/educated girl, lemme me ask you this, are you in all honesty, okay with making your food like a pigswill just because the gravy is free & unlimited? ✌️”

Currently, the tweet has gotten over 4.3 million views, 3.3K likes, and 1.2K replies.

What are your thoughts on this gravy issue?
