Red Velvet said to be ‘gearing up for a comeback,’ manager confirms

Amidst rumors of Red Velvet’s disbandment for the past couple of days, Red Velvet’s manager says that the group is “currently preparing” for their comeback.

The announcement was made in a video starring SHINee’s Key, where he talked about SM Entertainment’s industry secrets. Lee Seok-hoon and Key had the headquarters of SM Entertainment and talked with a number of people, including SHINee’s Taemin’s former manager—now Red Velvet’s manager.

There he had revealed that Red Velvet was gearing up for their comeback and said “to please take good care of Red Velvet”. Following the 9th debut anniversary of the beloved quintet, rumors of their disbandment started floating around after SM Entertainment confirmed that member Seulgi had renewed her contract with them.

The rumors started coming to light following an article by a South Korean media outlet stating that Red Velvet’s leader Irene may not be renewing her contract with the agency.

Even without confirmation from SM Entertainment, the news of Red Velvet’s upcoming comeback has caught the attention of fans and netizens everywhere. The news of the quintet’s comeback was first revealed by member Yeri during their 9th debut anniversary live, where she mentioned that they were currently preparing for the 3rd full-length album.

Red Velvet’s most recent release was their EP, “The ReVe Festival 2022 – Birthday,” with its lead single “Birthday” which was released on November 28, 2022. If their comeback is set to be in the 2nd half of the year, then it would mark their first comeback since November 2022, and their first full-length album in 7 years.

Their second studio album, “Perfect Velvet”, was released on November 17, 2017, and was later repackaged as “The Perfect Red Velvet” in January 2018.

Currently, the Red Velvet members are partaking in their individual activities—Joy is currently hosting the TV show “Animal Farm” with Shin Dong-yup and has recently starred as Ahn Ja-Yeong in KakaoTV’s “Once Upon a Small Town”. Following her stint as the host of “SBS Youngstreet”, Wendy made her official theatre debut and is currently starring as the main character “I” in the musical “Rebecca” for its 10th anniversary production.

Member Yeri had recently starred as one of the female leads of Wavve’s web series, “Bitch x Rich” as Baek Je-na and was awarded at the 2023 Brand of the Year Awards as the winner for “Best Idol-Actress”. Seulgi recently made waves during her debut as a solo artist with her EP, “28 Reasons.” Irene hosted her first-ever reality web series titled, “Irene’s Work & Holiday” in August 2022, and was recently appointed as the newest muse for the Japanese brand of the Korean makeup brand 2ªn.

Red Velvet is also set to make a group appearance in the upcoming “SMTOWN Live 2023: SMCU PALACE @ Jakarta” on the 23rd of September, 2023.
