Foreign media dubbed BLACKPINK’s concert in France as the ‘worst concert’ last summer

Acclaimed French newspaper Le Parisien threw shade at K-pop girl group BLACKPINK and hailed the band’s recent concert in France as the worst international concert last summer.

The news outlet published a review last September 2 of the concerts that were held in the national stadium the Stade De France and Paris La Défense Arena. They have emphasized that the list they created was made objectively and not everyone would agree with their ranking.

Le Parisien professed that the “Born Pink” world tour encore concert of BLACKPINK last July 15 was the worst among the international acts, and criticized the group. Although the band was able to draw 55,000 people in attendance, the newspaper revealed why the group was given a lower rank on its list.

The outlet explained that “Just because audiences filled the Stade De France (venue) doesn’t mean the performance is good. What we thought after leaving BLACKPINK’s concert was that the choreography was too textbook, and the members would often walk in front of each other due to miscommunication.”

The publication then continued its criticism of the show and pointed out the behavior of one of the girls specifically on communicating with their fans.

“During the latter part of the show, Jennie suddenly left the stage, and the remaining members incredulously started calling out audiences-held posters. This was not a performance befitting the young Koreans’ popularity.”

They also criticized various aspects of their performance such as the quality of the video footage capturing the members of BLACKPINK, which they deemed messy and unstable. Le Parisien also noted that, “There were excessive intermissions that disrupted the rhythm.”

Le Parisien did recognize a standout performance and among all the concerts held in July at Stade De France, the Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd was praised by the publication for the show’s stage setup, vocal performance, and all-around presentation. They labeled it as “the most perfect and daring performance of the summer.”
