SM Entertainment announces newest trainees to debut as NCT Tokyo

NCT will now have 27 members as a full group.

In the finale episode of SM Entertainment’s reality survival show, “NCT Universe: LASTART,” aired on September 6, 2023, the newest line-up for NCT’s final sub-unit had been revealed.

“NCT UNIVERSE: LASTART” saw 10 different trainees competing for the chance to debut as part of the newest NCT unit, which is also the last of the group’s concept expansion. The name “LASTART” is a reference to the final lineup being the “last” in NCT’s infinite expansion, and the “start” of a new team and unit.

The show initially stated that 4 trainees out of the 10 will be chosen to debut in the newest NCT unit, making the original unit to have 6 members. However, during the finale, the program announced that the new unit will now have 7 members, and that 5 trainees will then be chosen.

The 5 trainees that will be making their debut alongside SM Rookies Sion and Yushi, who were first introduced in June, as the newest NCT lineup are the following: Riku, Sakuya, Daeyong, Jungmin, and Ryo.

Following their announcement as the newest members of NCT, the selected trainees said, “As NCT is a name with great global influence, we will do our best to become the people worthy of it. We are grateful to the members (trainees) who participated in this program and everyone who helped us.”

The NCT unit is still currently unnamed, but they are speculated to be called as NCT Tokyo. NCT’s Haechan, who was part of the judges for the finale episode, announced that the new unit will be having a pre-stage at the “NCT NATION: To The World” concert in Tokyo.

NCTzens, who were largely unaware of the fact that they would be welcoming 7 new members into the NCT lore at first, congratulated the soon-to-be NCT unit. There were however, some NCTzens who also started throwing hate for no apparent reason, though some were still bitter over how now-RIIZE members Shotaro, Sungchan, Eunseok, and Seunghan, and SM Rookie Shohei were “removed” from the original line-up.

Congratulations to NCT’s newest members! The neos will surely have your back, don’t you worry.
