Is Bonnie Raitt’s Grammy win the most polarizing this year, or are some people just oblivious as to who she is?

Certainly not everyone’s choice to win the “Song of the Year” award at the GRAMMYs, but Bonnie Raitt totally deserves it. She herself didn’t even expect to win–I mean, just take a look at her reaction.

The internet, being the internet of course, didn’t know how to react to it, or perhaps they preferred another artist to win the title.

Now that’s out of the bag, it’s time for us to introduce who Bonnie Raitt is.

Bonnie Raitt, born on November 8, 1949, is an American blues singer who has received quite a lot of awards during her professional career. She first began her career in 1971, where she first released her self-titled debut album, and later on released a number of critically acclaimed albums that cemented her commercial success.

1990 was a momentous year for Bonnie Raitt, where she had won her first Grammy awards for the categories, “Album of the Year”, “Best Female Rock Vocal Performance”, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” for her 10th studio album “Nick of Time” and the song of the same name. Her album was also selected by the Library of Congress to be preserved in the United States National Recording Registry.

Since then, Bonnie Raitt became a renowned blues and Americana singer in the U.S. Overall, Raitt has received thirteen Grammy Awards and was granted a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. In the same year, she had also received the Icon Award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards.

She had also been ranked in Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Singers of All Time”, as well as their “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list. In 2000, she had been inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame for her influence in the genre.

A long list of accolades, but perhaps you’d recognize her most mainstream work, which has been covered by other pop heavyweights such as George Michael (RIP) and Adele:

Her winning “Song of the Year” at this year’s Grammy Awards is totally deserved. She is a legend and a queen.
