Actor Ryan Grantham killed his own mother, planned to kill Canadian PM

Former Riverdale and Diary of a Wimpy Kid star Ryan Grantham had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last March for killing his own mother. He also had plans to kill Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, as reported by CBC.

The 24-year-old murdered his own 64-year-old mother by shooting her in the back of the head while she was playing piano back in March 2020. It was discovered that he had rehearsed the killing of the Canadian PM and took videos of it. He had also recorded his confession and showed his mother’s dead body on tape.

The day after the murder, he packed his car with three guns, ammo, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping supplies, and a map to Trudeau’s location. He didn’t reach the Prime Minister’s residence and instead opted to turn himself in to the police.

According to psychiatric reports, Grantham had intense clinical depression before he killed his mother. He also had urges to kill himself and was guilty over the fact that he stopped attending University, and did not want his mother to find out. Apparently, he killed his mother “to spare her from seeing the violence he intended to commit.”

Lisa Grantham, Ryan’s sister, found her mother’s body in April 2020. According to Complex, Lisa shared her victim impact statement and said that she had been destroyed by her mother’s death. Her mom was battling cancer and was her best friend. In court, she said this:

“It breaks my heart she struggled so hard … only to be murdered by her own son. She was vulnerable and Ryan gave her no chance to defend herself. It pains me to know he was a danger to her life.”

On Twitter, people shared their surprise and disbelief over the situation.
