Duolingo, the internet’s favorite language teacher, had announced the death of their mascot, ‘The Duolingo Owl.’
In an Instagram post, they disclosed, “Authorities are currently investigating his cause of death and we are cooperating fully.” The company jokingly alleged that the owl’s death was perhaps attributed to users forgetting to fulfill their daily language lessons.

Duolingo is also looking into the possibility that it was a foul play from the owl’s enemies, but asked that the users spare the owl from hate comments.
The death of Duo owl was evident across their social media platforms and even the mobile application icon of Duolingo where the iconic green owl’s eyes were crossed, and its tongue playfully plopped down to visually signify his death.
Following the announcement, Duolingo had posted a memorial video of Duo, “Guys Duo died 😭 btw [by the way] I’m deaf so I hope this is a sad song.” Unfortunately, the background was nowhere near mournful, rather it was the ‘Big Back’ song parody.

All jokes aside, social media users are deeply curious about what is behind the marketing stunt of Duolingo and the “death” of its mascot. Duolingo later teased, “Keep an eye on our social channels as we uncover the shocking (and possibly absurd) truth behind his untimely demise.”
