For 41 years, the UPLB Statistical Society (STATS), a duly recognized academic organization in the University of the Philippines Los Baños, has committed itself to the pursuit of academic and professional excellence. The organization continues to work towards its goal of advancing and promoting proper application of statistics in all fields of learning endeavors. Though an academic organization, UPLB STATS does not set its limit in developing academic excellence among its members but also in promoting awareness among the youth nationwide. In recognition of its outstanding efforts and exemplary dedication to the successful conduct of various statistical advocacy activities for the youth, UPLB STATS was awarded as the Best Youth Advocate for Statistics during the 27th and 28th National Statistics Month.
ESTADISTIKA is an annual, invitational statistics quiz, poster-making, essay- writing, and photo contest established by the UPLB STATS. However, due to the pandemic, the organization opted to re-invent the said activity and make an ESTADISTIKA Special Edition—with the same aim to introduce the proper application of statistics in various disciplines, and to promote intellectual growth in statistics nationwide.
In its 16th year, high school and college students from schools nationwide are invited to participate in MULAT 2022: A Nationwide ESTADISTIKA Special Edition for Essay Writing and Video-Making Contests. The said contests will officially start on 21st of March 2022, with the theme, “IllumiNATION: Magnifying the Significance of Statistics in Choosing Our Country’s Next Leaders”.
The essay writing contest is divided into two divisions—high school and college. For high school division, the contest is open to all enrolled Grades 9-12 nationwide, and for college division, the contest is open to all enrolled undergraduate students nationwide. Meanwhile, the video-making contest is open to all enrolled senior high school and undergraduate college students nationwide. Moreover, both contests have NO REGISTRATION FEE.
In the essay writing contest, a maximum of 50 official participants per division will be accepted. The participants have a chance to win Php 2,500.00 for first place, Php 1,500.00 for second place, and Php 1,000.00 for third place. On the other hand, for the video-making contest, a maximum of 20 official teams, consisting of at most 5 members from the same school, will be accepted. The participating teams in the video making contest have the opportunity to win as much as Php 3,000.00 for the grand prize, Php 2,000.00 for the first runner up, Php 1,500.00 for the second runner up, and Php 1,000.00 for being the most liked video on ESTADISTIKA’s Facebook page.
MULAT 2022 officially launches today, February 21, 2022 and the registration period for the contests starts tomorrow, February 22 at 8AM. Registration links are provided down below, which will be open until March 18, 9PM ONLY.
