The National Youth Congress (NYC) proudly marks its 21st year with the theme, “From the Ground Up: Youth as the Cornerstone of People-Centered Development.” Taking place from March 22 to 24, 2025 at UP Diliman, NYC 21 emphasizes that active citizenship starts long before voting age. It empowers young leaders to become changemakers by fostering awareness of good governance at the grassroots level. Through civic consciousness, critical conversations, and problem-solving, NYC equips students with the tools needed for nation-building.
Organized by students from the UP School of Economics and the UP Economics Society, it is a three-day forum that gathers the nation’s brightest high-schoolers and serves as a platform for their involvement in national development. By introducing them to fundamental economic concepts and their real-world applications, NYC inspires the next generation of leaders. It has grown into one of the country’s largest and most prestigious high school congresses, and on its 21st iteration, it welcomes around 200 delegates from over 20 public and private schools nationwide..
The event features segments such as SPARK, a series of keynote talks by experts addressing pressing national issues, and LAUNCH, interactive workshops that equip students with practical knowledge and skills. The Opportunities Fair connects delegates with advocacy groups, academic institutions, and potential career paths. NYC also hosts various competitions, including SMART, the headline case competition; the Quiz Bee, which tests delegates’ economics knowledge; INK, an essay-writing contest; GLIMPSE, a video-making competition; and CAPTURE, an infographic-making and a visual arts contest.
Beyond these, NYC fosters friendships and collaboration. Activities like the Amazing Race, Awarding Ceremony, and Socials Night help build lasting connections among students nationwide. Delegates will also have an immersive Field Trip experience, allowing them to see how active citizenship and economics manifest in real life. INSPIRE, a special session for educators, will center on the role of teachers in instilling civic responsibility in the youth..
