When we were kids, we used to believe in a plethora of strange things—whether it’s the boogeyman hiding in the closet or a pot of gold at the rainbow’s end. It’s because the world is a complex place to live in and our only way to understand the unexplainable is by making up stories. But now that we’re older, knowing the truth about our false beliefs often leaves us a deep sense of betrayal.
Just try to remember how people felt upon learning that Hello Kitty is a “human girl?” Or, that moment when someone found out Peppa Pig’s real height? (To be honest, I can’t still wrap my head around it!)
But after all these revelations, there’s another shocking truth that would surely tarnish your childhood memories—and it’s Pucca’s nationality. Some of us grew up believing that Pucca was Chinese but the fact is, she’s actually South Korean.

In a now-viral Facebook post by Minnie Seok, which has been shared 24,000 times already, online users were quick to react to this recent discovery. One Facebook user said, “I always thought she was Japanese,” to which another replied with, “This is big knowledge.”
So if Pucca (also known as Noodle Girl) is South Korean, where did the confusion come from?
In an interview with The Korean Herald, her creator Kim Boo-Kyoung said that people have mistaken her for being Chinese because of her double bun hairstyle and red-and-black outfit. However, the art director clarified that the character was never created with a nationality.
“The colors reflect the character’s personality. She is bold and powerful. Korean characters don’t have to be donned with ‘Korean-ness.’ If a character can elicit empathy from a large public, it can become the nation’s culture,” he explained.
Basically, it all depends on how we interpret Pucca!
