Anyone who’s ever built with Lego knows that you can make almost anything with their iconic peg-like bricks. Whether that’d be to recreate a famous automobile or to make cool-looking buildings, the sky is the limit when it comes to using this kind of toy. And photographer Mathieu Stern took this sentiment to heart when he made his own brick-tastic creation.
In a YouTube video posted last April 21, Stern shows viewers the step-by-step process on how he created a functional camera lens using Lego pieces he had at home.
He captioned the post: “I feel better now after 2 weeks of COVID-19 sickness, I am back at creating weird lenses even during quarantine! Here is a cool experiment, I had [this] in mind for [a] month, but Quarantine is great to make silly ideas come true, I guess. My wife and I did spend an afternoon building a working Lego Camera Lens and the results are not so bad in my opinion.”
Stern’s creation made use of multi-colored toy bricks, an external glass lens, a glass shield, and even a mini-figure at the top (for added decoration). The result is a stunning and whimsical-looking mechanism that functions just as well as a regular set of camera lenses.
