Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan are open to reprise their roles in a ‘Mean Girls’ sequel

The early 2000s gifted moviegoers with a plethora of teen flicks that would just never get old. From Princess Diaries to A Cinderella Story, this era provided us with memorable stories and iconic one-liners that we still mention even up to today. And quite possibly the most famous (and most “quotable”) film of that time would have to be Mean Girls.

Created by comedian Tina Fey, this movie captured the interests of young adults everywhere who couldn’t get enough of the characters and their epic one-liners. Seriously, who can forget Damian’s “you go, Glen Coco!” line or Gretchen’s “that is so fetch” phrase?

Because of its popularity from back then until now, the franchise has since had a movie sequel (without the original cast), a Broadway musical, a line of Funko POP! toys, and even its own interactive game on the mobile app Episode. But one thing fans have yet to see is what happened to the characters years after the first film. We need answers to questions like: Are Cady and Aaron still together? How does Regina George fare in college? And is Karen still forecasting the weather with her ESPN boob-radar?

Luckily, actresses Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams agree that fans do need the answers to these questions and they’re both open to reprising their roles should there be a Mean Girls sequel with the original cast.

Lohan–who played Cady Heron in the film–told David Spade in an interview that she’s wanted this for so long and has even reached out to creators Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels to make it happen.

“I wanted to come back with a Mean Girls 2 with the same cast, work with Tina Fey, and the whole crew again. That was really what I wanted, I was excited to do that. But that’s all in their (Fey and Michaels) hands, really,” Lohan shared.

Likewise, McAdams–who played the titular role of Regina George–says she’s open to reprising her role. In Canada’s London Health Science Foundation Heroes Of Health Stream-A-Thon event on YouTube, the actress says, “It would be fun to play Regina George later in her life and see where life took her.”

Given the time difference between the first film and its possible sequel, it would be likely that the next film (if there would be one) would explore the Plastics’ lives as grown adults

At the moment, only Lohan and McAdams have commented on the possibility of having a second Mean Girls film. We have yet to hear from the other actors and actresses such as Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, Lizzy Caplan, Jonathan Bennett, Daniel Franzese, and of course, Tina Fey.

Here’s to hoping the original cast can actually make this sequel happen!
