Last November 6, the SM Aura Premier Cinema 2 was filled with film lovers for the opening night of the Goethe-Institut Philippinen’s 3rd German Film Week.
The film festival featured contemporary German films in genres such as action, comedy, romance, and even European politics.
The premiere night was led by Goethe Institut Philippines Director Ulrich Nowak, who had high hopes of further promoting German films to the Filipino audience – highlighting its culture and language.
Director Nowak welcomed the audience to the opening night and gave a brief explanation about the first movie “Nur Gott Kann Mich Richten” (“Only God Can Judge Me”), which starred the famous German actor, Moritz Bleibtreu.
The film revolves around ex-convict Ricky who aims to get rich through stealing millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs. However, the plan backfires as Ricky and his brother Rafael run into Diana, a policewoman struggling to save her daughter’s life.
This year, the program also lined-up 10 of the best and new movies the German cinema has to offer. This includes “Forget About Nick”, “Rock My Heart”, “The Captain”, “The Invisibles”, “303”, “Transit”, “Styx”, “The Final Journey”, and, “In The Fade”.
The succeeding screenings happened during the rest of the 3rd German Film Week, which lasted from November 7 to 11, 2018, at the SM Aura Premier and SM City North EDSA Cinemas.
