The canine who has unique heart-shaped spots on his eyes instantly became an internet celebrity and is currently stealing the hearts of many — dog lover or not. His human Halieigh, a primary school teacher from North Carolina, US, says that she instantly fell in love with Charlie when she adopted him at seven weeks old.

“It really was love at first sight when I met Charlie for the first time,” she told Metro. “When he was born he barely had any spots at all and it wasn’t until he was four months that the patches around his eyes grew into a perfect heart shape.”

Halieigh said that the “love hearts” around Charlie’s eyes are getting clearer as he gets older. She shared that she finds it funny when some people ask her if she’s drawing his heart spots with eyeliner because they’re so symmetrical.

The fur parent also said that she has always wanted to have a Dalmatian ever since she saw 101 Dalmatians as a kid. Halieigh said she never owned a dog before Charlie but she wanted some company after she moved away from home for her job. She decided to adopt Charlie before even meeting him and, luckily for her, he quickly settled into life at home with her.

“Adopting Charlie was the best decision of my life, he’s my best friend and has helped me overcome so many personal issues too,” she says.

Halieigh decided to put up an Instagram page dedicated to Charlie where she would upload photos of him on a daily basis. She shares that Charlie started to get a lot of attention because of his unique heart-shaped spots and people could now recognize him when they are out for a walk.

“We receive lots of lovely messages online and comments from people in the street on a daily basis. It’s nice to know that he’s making so many people smile.”
