Chris Martin performs Taylor Swift’s song in Vienna following ‘Eras Tour’ cancellations

Coldplay’s Chris Martin and singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers delivered a special surprise to fans in Vienna by performing a heartfelt cover of Taylor Swift’s hit song ‘Love Story’ during a concert on Wednesday night, August 21. This emotional tribute came in the wake of the recent cancellation of Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ concerts in the city, which were called off following a foiled terror plot.

Earlier this month, Vienna was set to host three of Swift’s much-anticipated ‘Eras Tour’ shows. However, the concerts were abruptly cancelled after authorities revealed that two individuals had been arrested on suspicion of planning a terror attack during the performances. The news left Swift’s fans, known as Swifties, deeply disappointed, turning what should have been a joyous occasion into one marked by concern and sadness.

During Coldplay’s performance at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, Chris Martin took a moment to address the recent events. “This is something we never do, but we have to do it today,” Martin said, addressing the crowd with sincerity. “Vienna was in the news all over the world for all the wrong reasons. But what stood out to us was the beauty, togetherness, and kindness of all of Taylor Swift’s fans.”

Acknowledging the strong connection between Swift and her fans, Martin continued with a lighthearted note, saying, “I don’t want you to think that we don’t care about Swifties in our band. If this doesn’t go well, please, please don’t put it on YouTube—I don’t want to get in trouble with Taylor! But if you could sing along with us, that would be wonderful. This is a beautiful song.”

Martin then invited two fans from the audience to join him onstage, along with Maggie Rogers, who had been opening for Coldplay during their tour. Together, they launched into a rendition of ‘Love Story,’ a track that has long been a favorite among Swift’s fans.

The gesture was met with overwhelming appreciation from the audience. Many fans took to social media, specifically X, afterwards to express their gratitude for the tribute.
