Filipino R&B artist Denise Julia under fire for ‘sexual objectification’

Filipino singer-songwriter Denise Julia received flak for her heated remarks over claims that she has engaged in “queerbaiting.”

The singer’s now-deleted posts on her X (formerly Twitter) profile sparked controversy when an X called her out for making offensive remarks about women. The user also pointed out how ill-timed the matter was to break out during International Women’s Month.

Denise purportedly posted about people questioning her sexuality and calling her work and relationships with other female artists “queerbaiting”, a marketing strategy used by creators for fiction or entertainment to allude to same-sex romances and other LGBTQ+ representations without explicitly depicting them.

Currently, a screenshot of the singer’s tweets has been circulating online, where social media users vented their displeasure with the “NVMD” singer’s objectification of women through her remarks.

The artist confronted the problem head-on on Tuesday, March 12, explaining why she had decided to remove her posts, which were aimed at “offensive straight and homosexual men” who persisted in pressing the queerbaiting issue on her. After deleting the controversial posts, Julia vowed to do better.
