Apparently, some fans call this guy the “weakest Hokage in history.”
In the continuation of ‘Boruto,’ the spin-off/sequel of the popular shōnen manga series and franchise ‘Naruto,’ fans are greeted (were spoiled) with a very dramatic time-skip and surprising news.
Due to Naruto and Hinata’s “death” following the events of the ‘Boruto: Naruto Next Generations’ (no spoilers here lmao), Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf Village) saw the need to elect a new leader in his stead. In a surprising (though not really) turn of events, Konoha decided to elect Naruto’s chief aide and Nara clan head, Shikamaru as their 8th Hokage.
This spoiler news drew some mixed reactions from the manga’s fans, with some of them being pleased with the announcement, and others being hesitant to accept or are in complete denial about it. Needless to say, it caused some noise over at the online anime community.
Fans were divided on which character was more fit to be Hokage and gave some suggestions: Sakura (Tsunade’s pupil), Kakashi (again), and Konohamaru (basically Naruto’s junior and one of the living elite members of the Sarutobi clan).
Some also said that he paled in comparison to his predecessors, who were absolute units on their own—The first 2 Hokages (Hashirama and Tobirama Senju) literally created an insane technique in the whole Naruto universe, the 3rd (Sarutobi Hiruzen) who was known as a “God of Shinobi”, the 4th (Namikaze Minato) who died sealing Kurama (the Nine-tailed fox) inside his own son, the 5th (Tsunade) who basically mothered as the world’s strongest medical ninja, the 6th (Hatake Kakashi) proving his suitability for the role especially after the Fourth Shinobi World War, and of course, the 7th a.k.a. the Uzumaki Naruto.
Others were in support of Shikamaru’s promotion to Hokage, saying it was a smart move on Konoha’s part as his intellect proved vital to the Fourth Shinobi World War, his genius acknowledged by numerous characters in the series, and was a candidate for the role of Hokage by several characters such as his teacher, Sarutobi Asuma.
