Despite the heavy rains brought by a tandem of typhoons, a Filipino couple was set on exchanging their vows, even if it meant walking through a flooded church.
In a viral video, bride Dianne Victoriano was captured wading through ankle-deep water in her wedding gown as she walked the aisle in a church in Malolos, Bulacan. Maria Jasmin Halili, the groom’s cousin, shared clips of the scene on Facebook, writing that there’s no storm or flood for two people in love.
Despite the challenge, joy was evident on the bride’s face as she made her way to the altar. Some guests were seen with their pants cuffed up and merely wore slippers or went barefoot while one paired his suit with rain boots.
Victoriano took to Facebook her gratitude to her now husband Paulo Padilla and to all the guests who did not hesitate to join the festivities amidst the storm and floods. “It didn’t matter if the guests refused to come because of the situation,” she said in a report. What’s important is that we wanted to be married, that the two of us were there, and that our families were with us.”
Eilleen Bautista, Victoriano’s wedding coordinator, recalled how the rain was “pouring heavily” a day before the occasion. She wrote on Facebook, “The couple decided to go ahead with the wedding, and as their trusted event consultant, I had to be ready to make it happen—rain or shine!” She shared that careful planning, especially taking into consideration the safety of everyone involved, she was “determined to make this wedding a memorable one.”
Despite the circumstances, Bautista was filled with “a sense of purpose guided by prayers” seeing that everything was in a good state and everyone was enjoying themselves. “This wedding proved that even in the face of adversity, we can still come together and celebrate love in its purest form,” she added.
