Here’s how ‘Euphoria’ star Angus Cloud landed his breakout role despite no experience in acting

“Euphoria” fans are mourning the death of actor Angus Cloud after he was reported dead at 25. His co-stars in the hit HBO series recently paid him tribute, following the sad news.

Cloud played Fezco, also known as Fez, who was first introduced as the lead character Rue Bennett’s (Zendaya) good-hearted drug-dealing friend. He instantly became a fan-favorite in the series’ first season and further gained praise in the second season, where his backstory was developed, as well as his budding relationship with Rue’s best friend, Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow).

Although his character had been received warmly by viewers, Cloud’s successful casting in the series happened when he was discovered by mere chance.

Cloud revealed that he was scouted for the role while he was walking the streets of Manhattan back in 2018. He recalled that he was approached by a casting company representative who encouraged him to audition for a TV series in the making.

“I was confused and I didn’t want to give her my phone number. I thought it was a scam,” he said. Next thing he knew, he was in a room filled with people watching him read lines out of the script of “Euphoria’s” pilot episode. “I had to change it a little bit. To make it sound real, like how I would say it.”

Passing the second audition, Cloud was flown out to Los Angeles for an eight-month shoot of the Sam Levinson-created series. He admitted that it was challenging to find a place to rent so he had to stay in multiple AirBnBs. “Nobody was trying to rent me a spot. I don’t have any credit and they didn’t believe I was a real actor,” he recalled.

A remarkable feature of Fezco’s character is the scar on his head. Turns out, it was a real scar that Cloud got in his teenage years.

He recounted the incident in an interview, saying that he fell in a construction pit that was at least 10 feet deep. “It was hella hard to climb out, because my skull was broken, but my skin wasn’t, so all the bleeding was internal, pressing up against my brain. But they weren’t gonna find me down there. I found myself. Or God found me, whatever you want to call it,” he shared.

He said that the hospital staff saved his life, recalling that “they cut my head open, they put some screws and a plate over where I broke my skull, and sealed me back up, and that was that.”

Cloud’s scar was incorporated into Fez’s backstory in the second season, showing that he got it after being accidentally hit with a crowbar as a kid.
