‘Wednesday’ Season 2 to focus more on its horror aspect rather than romance, says Jenna Ortega

Wednesday actress, Jenna Ortega, shared that the second season of beloved series ‘Wednesday’ will be more horror-centric and will be ditching the character’s love interest.

During a conversation with Elle Fanning for Variety, Ortega shared that the series is still coming together, but there is a major shift in terms of the series’ aspect.

“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more. We’re ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great,” she said. “We’re going to get bolder, more dark. I’ve never had to do a serious period piece before.”

This shift comes as no surprise as she is coming in as a producer for the second season of the show. Ortega is slowly building her image as this generation’s “scream queen”, having been part of Ti West’s highly-acclaimed horror film “X” and playing a major role in the Scream franchise.

According to her, this was her time being a producer and she felt like this change was integral for the character, “It was a natural progression. With a character like Wednesday, who is so beloved, I didn’t want to get her wrong,” she said.

Ortega added, “I tried to have as many conversations as possible with the writers. We’d decide what works and what doesn’t. In preparation for a second season, we wanted to make sure that we could start the conversations earlier. I’m just so curious: I want to see the outfits, new characters, [and] scripts.”

‘Wednesday’ premiered last November 2022 and was well-received and highly acclaimed by professionals and viewers alike, specifically praising Ortega’s portrayal of the iconic character.

The release date of the second season of “Wednesday” is yet to be announced.
