12-year-old boy finishes college in California, earns 5 degrees

12-year-old Clovis Hung recently became the youngest individual to graduate from Fullerton College, receiving not just one, but five degrees by the time the young boy finished college.

Fullerton College is said to be the oldest community college that is still operating in California. The college was established in 1913.

Hung began studying in Fullerton in 2020, when he was just nine years old. His mother pulled him out of public school in the belief that he is a goal-oriented and motivated individual.

Last May 20, the boy managed to earn five Associate of Arts degrees such as in History, Social Sciences, Social Behavior and Self-Development, Arts and Human Expression, and Science and Mathematics.

“I feel proud of myself. Hard work has finally paid off,” he stated in an official news release.

When it comes to his career goals in life, Hung shared he wants to become a pediatrician, pilot, or aerospace engineer.

Hung said that he is proud of what he has achieved. He also shared that he just joined the Civic Air Patrol and is hoping to receive his pilot license when he turns 16.

Hung’s mother said that he is a very inquisitive, diligent, mature, disciplined, and motivated person. It was also said that public schools were not enough for the boy’s maturity. Thus, entering college was the best option to choose.

The boy took Fullerton College’s “special admit program.” It let him have courses while being taught by his mother through a homeschool curriculum at the same time.

At first, Hung was worried about having in-person courses. However, he said that he later fell in love with life in college and even added that he challenged himself to have more classes.

Even Hung’s professors admitted that they were worried that the boy would be frightened because of the age gap he had with other students. However, they were later surprised at how well Hung was treated by other college students.

Hung was not actually the first and only one who graduated from Fullerton College at a very young age. There was Jack Rico, 13, who earned four associate degrees when he finished college in 2020.

Rico graduated from college in 2021 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was just 15 at that time when he received a History degree, according to a report.

It was said that Rico inspired Hung to study at Fullerton College.
