Filipino celebrities earn nomination at the Seoul International Drama Awards

Various actors and actresses from the Philippines are among the nominees for the ‘Outstanding Asian Star’ category at the 18th Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA).

Among the nominees are Kapamilya stars and real-life couple Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo for their roles in ABS-CBN’s “2 Good 2 Be True.”

Kapuso stars Barbie Forteza, Dennis Trillo, and Julie Ann San Jose are also nominated in the category for their roles in GMA Network’s most-acclaimed drama “Maria Clara at Ibarra.”

The Filipino nominees will vie for the said award with other nominees from South Korea, China, Thailand, Japan, and Taiwan.

Notable nominees from other countries include South Korea’s Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-Kyo, Park Eun-bin, Lee Je-hoon, and Lim Yoona; China’s Dylan Wang; Thailand’s Nichkhun of 2PM; Japan’s Tsuyoshi Kusanagi and Kento Yamazaki; and Taiwan’s Vivian Sung.

According to the organizers, the nominees will only compete with other nominees from the same country. The winner will be invited to the awarding ceremony.

Winners will be based on fan votes made via the app “Idol Champ.” Fans can vote starting June 15.

“2 Good 2 Be True” and “Maria Clara at Ibarra” are among the 344 entries from 44 countries that have been submitted in this year’s awarding ceremony.

Last year, Star Magic artist, Belle Mariano, made history as the first Filipino to win the Outstanding Asian Star Prize, and she went to South Korea to personally receive the award.

This year’s SDA will be held on September 21 and will be live broadcast through South Korea’s KBS2TV.

Last year, Belle Mariano was named the Philippine winner for the Outstanding Asian Star 2022 category.
