ASTRO’s Moonbin passes away at the age of 25

Trigger Warning: Possible suicide

On April 19, 2023, Yonhap News reported that ASTRO’s Moonbin was found dead in his Gangnam home at around 8:10 P.M. by his manager. The police had responded to the scene, and believe that the ASTRO singer had taken his own life.

“It appears that Moonbin took his own life,” said the police, also adding that they are currently discussing the possibility of having an autopsy to determine his cause of death.

Moonbin debuted as a member of ASTRO under Fantagio in February 2016. In 2020, he and fellow member San-ha debuted as ASTRO’s first sub-unit “Moonbin & Sanha” with the debut EP “In-Out.” The sub-unit was set to appear in the 2023 Dream Concert on May 27, 2023.

He has a younger sister, Moon Sua, who debuted as a member of girl group BILLIE in November 2021.

We offer our sincerest condolences to their family, to ASTRO, and to his fans. May he rest in peace.

Update: ASTRO’s management, Fantagio, has already released an official statement.

English translation:

“This is Fantagio.

First of all, we apologize for the sad and heartbreaking news.

On April 19, ASTRO member Moon Bin suddenly left us and became a star in the sky.

It is incomparable to the sorrow of the bereaved families who lost their beloved son and brother, but all Astro members, fellow artists, executives and employees of Fantagio are deeply mourning the deceased in such great sadness and shock.

It is all the more heartbreaking to tell you the sudden news to the fans who supported Moon Bin and gave him generous love. It’s just more common because we know the heart of the deceased who always loved and thought of his fans more than anyone else.

We sincerely ask you to refrain from speculative reports and malicious reports so that the bereaved families, who are deeply saddened by the sudden sad news, can reverently commemorate and greet the deceased.

According to the will of the bereaved families, the funeral will be held as quietly as possible, with family members and company colleagues attending.

Once again, we send our deepest condolences on the last way of the deceased.”
