Labrador pup develops alcoholism after late owner left drinks before going to bed

A tragic story, but also somewhat heartwarming, has emerged from Plymouth, western England, involving a two-year-old Labrador mix named Coco. Coco’s owner recently passed away, and the poor pup had to be taken into a rescue shelter.

According to Woodside Animal Welfare Trust, Coco was brought to the vet with another dog. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse as the other dog became very sick, suffering fits and seizures. Not long after, Coco began showing similar symptoms.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of the treating veterinarians, Coco’s friend passed away. Coco, on the other hand, had to be sedated for four weeks to manage his withdrawal symptoms. It was later discovered that the two dogs had developed an unusual addiction to alcohol; apparently, their late owner had left drinks out before going to bed.

Despite everything he’s been through, Coco is now medication-free and is now starting to behave like a normal dog.

However, the trust reported that, although he has physically recovered, he remains anxious at times.

Coco’s story has received a lot of attention, thanks to the Woodside Animal Welfare Trust’s Facebook page, where his story was shared. People have been showing their support and kind words, with many expressing their sympathy and admiration for the trust’s dedication to helping animals in need.
