Lizzo defends Nickelback, vibes to ‘How You Remind Me’

As Lizzo fans probably know, earlier this year she revealed that she’s actually a pretty big rock music fan. Back in February, during her European tour stop in Germany, the American singer surprised the fans by performing an a cappella cover of Rammstein’s hit track “Du Hast,” showing off her German skills.

At another Berlin show, Lizzo outdid herself by adding her band to the mix to create a full-production rendition of the iconic Rammstein classic, much to the joy of her fans and rock fans on the internet.

In recent news, the singer revealed that she’s also something of a Nickelback fan, as shared by the band in a three-year-old video featuring Lizzo. In a ‘Jam Or Not A Jam‘ feature with CBC Music in 2020, the video shows Lizzo rating and commenting on several hit songs by other artists. The artist gave her take on the breakthrough of Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me.” Lizzo comments on how Nickelback can be the subject of jokes and memes in the music world, adding that the band gets “way too much shit” before stating that she thinks How You Remind Me is a “jam” as she sings along and commending the single’s “beautiful climax.”

While she does later admit that she doesn’t know all the lyrics, she clearly enjoys the song, explaining that she thinks the only reason Nickelback “got any shit” in the first place is because of band frontman and vocalist Chad Kroeger’s “curly blonde perm.”

In an interview with KLOS radio show Whiplash, Chad Kroeger explains that Nickelback’s haters have only helped to keep the Canadian band relevant, Kroeger added “All the detractors, all the haters, all the keyboard heroes, they have no idea how much they keep us in the press loop. It’s hilarious.”

“Those people that would love to see us go away, if they really wanted to see us go away, they would just shut up, because all those bands that came out with us at the same time are all gone, because nobody said anything about them. They all just sort of disappeared. But we’ve really kind of spun this whole negative thing into a positive thing. And here we are.” He added.
