‘DDS ka pala’: Chappell Roan’s ‘DDS’ ad sparks witty reactions from Filipinos

On March 29, Singer Chappell Roan has shared her favorite ads for her latest single, “The Giver,” on social media.

Designed by creative director Ramisha Sattar, the series of photos features Roan dressed as a construction worker, plumber, lawyer, and private detective. However, one particular image from the campaign has caught the attention of Filipinos.

In a photo of Roan dressed as a dentist, the embedded text reads, “Dr. Roan D.D.S.,” which may have a different meaning to some.

Social media users took to the comments section sharing witty remarks with some of them writing what the acronym actually means for them.

One user wrote, “I knew it!!!! Chappell is also a Dingdong Dantes Supporter!!!”

Another user wrote, “DDS ka pala [You’re a DDS]… One of these days Nak [One of these days child]…. One of these days…”

“Pink pony Club (DDS version from the Hague),” a third user wrote.

A fourth user wrote, “Sabi na eh Olivia Rodrigo Roan Duterte hahahahaha.”

“I’m having wicked dreams of leaving Philippines… The Hague, Netherlands I swear it’s calling me,” a fifth user wrote in a sing-song fashion.

Some social media users were concerned that Roan might be confused with some of the comments on the particular post.

The acronym used after “Dr. Roan” actually stands for doctor of dental surgery but Filipinos may have injected Filipino humor upon seeing the said post.

“The Giver” is Roan’s first new single since the April 2024 release of “Good Luck, Babe!” This came as her 2023 debut album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” was gaining popularity and producing huge hits all year long. “Good Luck, Babe!” received multiple Grammy nominations, and the singer won the coveted award for best new artist.
