Miley Cyrus releases demo version of ‘Flowers’

On March 3, Friday, Miley Cyrus dropped the demo version of her smash single “Flowers.”

“I can buy myself flowers/ Write my name in the sand/ Talk to myself for hours/ Say the things you don’t understand/ I can take myself dancing/ And I can hold my own hand/ Yeah, I can love me better than you can,” she sings over the original, scaled down version.

The demo takes away the high-flown strings and disco beat of the original track, leaving just the singer’s beautiful voice over an electric piano.

Prior to releasing the demo, the singer announced that she would be sharing it as a special gift to her fans after “Flowers” spent its sixth consecutive week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 (chart dated March 4). The song has emerged as an unstoppable force since its release on January 12. In the first week of its release, the anthem broke the record for the biggest opening week in Spotify history, only to be topped by an even higher streaming number in the following frame.

“Flowers” is the lead single for Cyrus’ upcoming eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation. To be released on March 10, the album will comprise previously unreleased versions of songs including “Jaded,” “Rose Colored Glasses,” “Violet Chemistry,” and “Wonder Woman,” as well as surprise collaborations with Brandi Carlile and Sia. The album has been described in a press release as “a reflection of the strength [Cyrus has] found in focusing both her physical and mental well-being.”

“Flowers” is unbeatable in both sides of the Atlantic, logging six consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and Official U.K. Singles Charts.
