The backstory behind the BLACKPINK and Pharell Williams photo just proves that the K-pop group’s popularity is on another level

Is your favorite boy/girl group this big that an actual French VIP took their photo with American singer Pharrell Williams?

No? Well, keep reading.

Last January 25/27, 2023, the Vice President of luxury jewelry brand Tiffany & Co., Alexandre Arnault, took a snap of someone taking BLACKPINK and Pharrell Williams’ photo backstage, and posted it on his Instagram story.

While everything looked completely normal, you’d never guess who took their photo together. It could have been anyone else, but everyone was shocked to find out that it was the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

Yup, le président de la République française lui-même, Emmanuel Macron.

Netizens and BLINKS, and well, everyone, was shocked to see such an important person take BLACKPINK’s photo. Like, wow.

The event that had taken place at the time was the “Le Gala des Pièces Jaunes” charity concert organized by France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron, which was broadcasted on January 28, 2023. The charity concert had been pre-recorded three days prior.

BLACKPINK joined other global stars such as Pharrell Williams, Mika, Pascal Obispo, and more. The quartet performed their hit songs “Pink Venom” with famous cellist Gautier Capuçon and “Shut Down” with award-winning violinist Daniel Lozakovich.

The girl group had also taken a photo with French President Emmanuel Macron and the French first lady Brigitte Macron.

BLACKPINK keeps slaying the world, honestly. Who would’ve thought they’d perform at such an important charity event for France?
