3 PlayStation games are getting the live-action treatment

Sony is going all-in on Hollywood, as 3 of their video game franchises are getting live-action adaptations. The Horizon series will be on Netflix, God of War will be on Amazon Prime, and Gran Turismo will get a movie that is still yet to have a platform as of writing.

In an investor briefing, it was revealed by Sony President Jim Ryan that they were truly expanding their video games into entertainment adaptations. Expect more live-action content from Sony in the future.

It also seems like Sony’s strategy here is to not stick to one sole streaming company. In the briefing, Sony clarified that they prefer “highly competitive streaming wars” and that they are good for the company. It makes sense, Sony would probably want us to see their content in whatever streaming service there is.

Sony also has other projects in early development. There will be a Twisted Metal series on Peacock, a Ghost of Tsushima movie, and a Metal Gear Solid movie.

Video game show adaptations have had their share of hits and misses. If we think of critically successful video game adaptations, we can think of Arcane (Riot), Castlevania (Nintendo), the Sonic movies (Nintendo), Detective Pikachu (Nintendo), and many more. There’s also been a lot of previous series and film adaptations of video games that fans weren’t too happy about, like the Halo TV adaptation (Xbox), the Resident Evil movies (Capcom), and that bad 80s animated Legend of Zelda series (Nintendo).

Sony has had box office success with their recent Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland but had mixed reviews. Will they see success in their future adaptations? Only time can tell.
