Hugh Grant addresses rumors about being the next Doctor Who

If you’re an avid fan of the popular TV series Doctor Who, chances are you’ve heard rumors and speculations as to who would be the next Doctor. There’s a rumor that Hugh Grant might be the next actor to portray the role.

However, Hugh Grant has put the rumors of him being pointed out as the next Doctor Who role to a complete stop. The actor simply dismissed the speculation and said that he has no idea where that rumor came from.

The 61-year-old actor Hugh Grant is known for starring in British films Notting Hill, Love Actually, and Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). Rumor has it that the actor will play TV’s famous time traveler Doctor Who, or so they thought.

Grant has quickly dismissed this rumor with his response to an article about the potential new role. He tweeted, “Nothing against Dr. W but I’m not. No idea where the story came from.”

Grant, however, had played the Doctor in a comic relief special in 1994 but it seems like it ends with that. In 2004 he was offered the role but he had turned it down. Jodie Whittaker, who plays the Thirteenth Doctor and is the first woman to portray the character in the series, announced that she would be stepping down from the role of Doctor in 2021 after three special episodes that will air later this year.

This simply means that the role is vacant. Russel T. Davies, who was previously head writer of the BBC TV series, returns as the showrunner for its 60th anniversary. It has been said that Davies could make the series “Marvel-like,” in reference to the comic-book-inspired films like Iron Man and The Avengers

Doctor Who is a BBC  television series that follows a science fiction adventure of a compassionate and extraterrestrial Time Lord called Doctor who appears to be human. The doctor ventures into the universe in a time-traveling spaceship called TARDIS that resembles a blue police phone box. He explores the universe to battle a multitude of evil while also spreading some positive influence. The show’s original run lasted 26 years from 1963 to 1989.
